A Shelby County jury has delivered a guilty verdict in the tragic case of Jazmin Jones, who lost her life in a fatal domestic shooting in February 2023. Randy Johnson was found guilty of Second-Degree Murder and Tampering with Evidence after a thorough investigation and a determined prosecution by the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office.
Justice for Jazmin Jones
Jones was discovered shot and left for dead in a driveway following a domestic dispute. Evidence presented at trial showed that Johnson, who had a prior relationship with Jones, shot her from inside his car, fired out the window, and then fled the scene. He later moved her vehicle in an attempt to cover his tracks. The prosecution, led by Assistant District Attorneys Monica Timmerman and Regina Lucreziano, called over 17 witnesses, including Jones’ family, law enforcement, and forensic experts.
Despite the case being largely circumstantial, prosecutors meticulously pieced together the evidence. Key digital forensic testimony revealed that Johnson’s phone was active at his home before and after the shooting, and showed flashlight activity that aligned with the State’s theory that he disposed of the murder weapon in a wooded area behind his residence.
“This was a tough case, but justice prevailed,” said ADA Timmerman. “We are glad that a jury held Randy Johnson accountable for his actions.”
