Welcome to another Friday edition of “Growing Greatness,” where we help parents and grandparents inspire #BeAmazing kids! This week, we’re shining a spotlight on a value that empowers children to face life’s challenges with hope and strength—Courage.

Why Courage Matters

Courage isn’t just about heroic acts or standing up in big moments. It’s the quiet strength to do what’s right, even when it’s hard or scary. In a world filled with uncertainty and change, courage helps our kids stand firm in their values, speak up for others, and try new things without fear of failure.

The Bible reminds us in Joshua 1:9:

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

When we teach our children to be courageous, we’re helping them trust God, believe in themselves, and persevere through life’s ups and downs.

How to Encourage Courage at Every Age

For Young Children (Ages 3–7):

• Celebrate Small Braveries: Praise your child when they try something new, like speaking up in class or making a new friend.
• Read Courage Stories: Share Bible stories or children’s books about characters who show courage, then talk about what made them brave.
• Practice Together: Role-play situations where your child might feel nervous, like greeting a new neighbor or asking for help.

For Elementary Kids (Ages 8–12):

• Encourage Problem-Solving: Let kids tackle age-appropriate challenges, even if they stumble. Remind them that mistakes are part of learning.
• Discuss Real-Life Heroes: Talk about people—locally or in history—who showed courage by standing up for what’s right.
• Support Speaking Up: Encourage your child to share their thoughts, even if their opinion is different from others.

For Teens (Ages 13+):

• Talk About Integrity: Discuss how courage often means doing the right thing, even when it’s unpopular or difficult.
• Empower Advocacy: Challenge your teen to stand up for someone being treated unfairly or to start a positive initiative at school or church.
• Model Vulnerability: Share your own stories of facing fears or tough decisions, and how faith helped you through.

How Do You Inspire Courage in Your Family?

Every family faces moments that require courage—whether it’s moving to a new city, dealing with loss, or simply trying something unfamiliar. Encourage your kids to pray for strength, lean on family, and trust that God is with them every step of the way.

When we nurture courage in our children, we’re preparing them to be resilient, compassionate, and confident leaders—ready to face the world with faith and hope.
